What's on the weblog? The principal director, Dr Dennis Perry (B.Sc (Hons), Ph.D, MACS) had a weblog to record his thoughts on various ICT issues and his other interests. This weblog was independent of the activities of tekniche, although, for obvious reasons, many thoughts would overlap with areas of interest to the tekniche consultancies. However, the weblog was discontinued in 2003, and is most likely to remain that way. The blog was called Peripatetic News and was managed using an early version of Movable Type - a Version 2 series. One article attracted some interest - one comment - from a jewellery maker in China who wanted to make a tie pin. If you read the blog entry, you'll appreciate the irony
What happened to the blog?Basically what happened is that I found out it wasn’t my thing. It obviously appeals to a different demographic, and there is no denying that blogs are here to stay in some form or another. What’s brought about the change of heart?I was always impressed by Robert Putnam’s analysis of the decline in social capital as evidenced through the decline in group membership of organisations. This is recorded in his book "Bowling Alone". But hey, what’s the social networking phenomenon of MySpace, Facebook, YouTube and SecondLife if it’s not an attempt to re-engage in virtual worlds. It’s not for me, I’m a fan of First Life, but it’s real for many other people.
