Knowledge Nation TaskforceThe Knowledge Nation Taskforce was established at the 2000 ALP National Conference. Dr Barry Jones, the outgoing National ALP President was appointed as the Chairman. The purpose of the Knowledge Nation Taskforce was to prepare a blueprint for government, on what could become government policy, should Labor win the Federal election, due in 2001, or 2002. Unfortunately for Australia, amidst allegations that the Federal election on 10 November 2001 was Tampa'd with, Knowledge Nation took second place to Secure Nation. The report of the Knowledge Nation Taskforce was lost in the ridicule surrounding the infamous "Noodle Nation" diagram. However, many of the ideas in the report were adopted, unacknowledged, by the new coalition government. Time will tell if the ideas put forward had true merit. The work of the Taskforce has been archived at the Chifley Research Centre website, and is now on Pandora at the NLA. Tekniche's principal, Dr Dennis Perry, was Technical Assistant to Dr Jones and the Taskforce. In this capacity he was responsible for developing a platform-independent collaborative workgroup procedure. This was done in conjunction with Alias Internet - now Ausnix. The final product was called the Knowledge Nation Taskforce Message Board. The Message Board was a secure, web-based forum that allowed members to post material and messages. Members were alerted to new material via e-mail alerts. Much of the innovation in the Message Board is now available in commercial products like Microsoft's SharePoint server, or Weblog software like Movable Type.
